Wings reviewed: Traditional Hot, Caribbean Jerk

Genre: Wing Place

Overview: St. Louis Wing Co. is a casual wing place that opened in 2010. They have over 15 different flavors and offer boneless and regular wings. I had 10 wings and a soda for lunch and the price was $12 and change. If you’re feeling hungry they have an $11.99 all you can eat deal until 8:00pm. You order at the counter and they deliver the wings to you. I wasn’t given an option to tip. This is my first visit for St. Louis Wing Review and maybe my 5th visit overall. I dined in by myself this time and I’ll be back in the future to review more flavors!

Traditional Hot

Picture: Traditional Hot
For a wing place, it kind of seems like they phoned it in here on the traditional hot sauce. That’s not to say that they aren’t good, there’s just nothing special about them. The heat level is pretty mild for a traditional hot and generally they taste like Frank’s & butter – again, not a bad thing.

The wings at STL Wing Co. are fried, and while they aren’t soggy, my preference would be a little bit crisper. A wing place needs to offer a traditional hot option and these are a fine representation of the style. However, there are so many other tasty & unique options on the menu that these are hard to recommend as a part of your order.

Caribbean Jerk

I’ve eaten a fair amount of Caribbean Jerk wings in my life and these are the best that I’ve had. The flavor is good and you can see a liberal application of jerk seasoning on top which adds another dimension. These are the 4th spiciest flavor on STL Wing Co.’s permanent menu and like the traditional hot, I would say they aren’t particularly spicy.

Also like the traditional hot, the wings are a little bit under-crisped for my liking but for some reason I think the treatment holds up better in this variety of wings. I would recommend working this flavor into your order for all except those with the most spice-sensitive palets.

I just was here for the all-you-can-eat. I had trad. hot and totally agree with you. Kind of average in flavor and lower than standard spice. Generally I was unimpressed, but didn’t have the carribean jerk and I usually am underwhelmed by boneless. So, I’ll go back.
