The STLWingReview was started as an ambitious project to rigorously review and categorize wings in the St. Louis area. I event went so far as to write a Review Methodology about how wings would be evaluated. This became tiring and uninteresting to me. Eventually, after several fits and starts, I liberated myself of this methodology and started writing much less formal reviews. I also started writing more frequent reviews of chain restaurants, and that is currently the source of well over 95% of my modest site traffic. In particular, my Buffalo Wild Wings: All Sauces and Seasonings Reviewed & Ranked article is viewed over 100 times every day, and normally over 300 times a day on Tuesdays, the day when BWW has cheap wings.
Just last week, I signed up for the Google AdSense program to see if I could capitalize on this and recoup some of my $10/month hosting cost for this site… and I think that I might be able to make $5-10 a month in profit. Of course, this discovery has me greedy for more! Looking at my most popular posts in the last 30 days, all of them are of national chains. But the difference between my most popular post, the BWW Mega Review (6,642 views) and my second most popular post on Little Caesars (310 views)… is somewhat massive.
All this to say that I’m embarking on another multi-week wing sauce review adventure to help pad these fat pockets!
Pizza Hut is a well known national pizza chain, and sometime in the last 15 years probably, a business known as WingStreet has been added on to all (I think?) of their locations. This branding is confusing. I will probably try to refer to it as Pizza Hut/WingStreet most of the time, to emphasize the absurdity of this setup. Pizza Hut/WingStreet seems to offer 8 varieties of wings flavors on their regular menu, with a couple flavors rotating through? They say “8 sauces and 2 dry rubs”. Who can tell what the truth is at this point?
Anyway, Wednesday is their cheap wing day, with 60¢ wings. Unlike BWW, Pizza Hut/WingStreet has a very large minimum though, with a minimum of 8 wings per order. Woof. For that reason, I’ll be reviewing 2 flavors of wings a week every Wednesday. I’ll be trying to evaluate the wings on the merit of the sauces/rubs rather than whether or not I got a good batch of cheap chicken. Unlike most wing places, Pizza Hut/WingStreet does not seem to list their sauces in order of spiciness anywhere on their website, so I’ve taken a guess myself, attempting to pair a spicier option with a mild option each week. Here’s what the schedule looks like:
Pizza Hut/Wing Street: All Sauces & Seasonings Ranked Week 1
Buffalo Mild
Cajun Dry Rub
Pizza Hut/Wing Street: All Sauces & Seasonings Ranked & Reviewed Week 2
Honey BBQ
Buffalo Medium
Pizza Hut/Wing Street: All Sauces & Seasonings Ranked & Reviewed Week 3
Garlic Parmesan
Buffalo Burnin’ Hot
Pizza Hut/Wing Street: All Sauces & Seasonings Ranked & Reviewed Week 4
Hawaiian Terayaki
Spicy Garlic
Pizza Hut/WingStreet: All Sauces & Seasonings Ranked & Reviewed Week 5
Smokey Garlic (if still available)
Lemon Pepper Dry Rub
All of these reviews will be compiled into one mega review:
Pizza Hut/WingStreet: All Sauces & Seasonings Ranked & Reviewed
I’ll try to update this post with links as I write them. Who knows though, really. Hope this serves as a valuable resource for thousands of people, as you are each worth approximately one half of one tenth of one cent to me.
