Wings Reviewed: Dragon Wings: Llywelyn’s Original

Genre: Place That Serves Wings

Overview: Llywelyn’s is a nigh unavoidable & unoffensive St. Louis bar chain. It’s a known quantity. The food is normally pretty good, the beer selection is pretty good, and they are in many neighborhoods convenient to me. For this review, we were at the Webster Groves location.

While I say that the beer selection and food are both pretty good, service is rarely a strong point for Llywelyn’s, but things were fine on this visit. There are normally enough TVs to comfortably watch whatever sporting event you’re interested in, and for this visit there was a Cardinals NLCS game on.

Pricing is pretty much in line with what you’d expect for a St. Louis bar. My pound of wings were $8.95, and a decent craft beer will cost about $5. Llywelyn’s offers their wings in a few different unique sounding flavors that actually are just pretty normal. In addition to wings their buffalo offerings include a buffalo chicken flatbread and a buffalo chicken wrap.

Would you rather eat a wing from a creature that doesn’t have them (a buffalo) or a wing from a creature that would have wings, if only they existed (a dragon)? Llywelyn’s thinks the latter!

Would you rather your wings be small and crispy or big and soggy? Llywelyn’s thinks the latter!

The “Llywelyn’s Original” sauce that these wings came with was not particularly original and was a pretty middle of the road buffalo sauce. Definitely nothing offensive about it. Not too spicy, probably a little too mild. The main fault of these wings were that they were pretty large and pretty soggy. Part of this could have had to do with an over saucing of the wings.

When you think “unremarkable bar wings” this should be an image that comes to mind. There’s lots of better food on this menu. Try the burger with the rarebit sauce unless you’re dying for wings.
