Olive + Oak

Chicken wings are not a fancy food. But sometimes a fancy place puts a fancy spin on chicken wings, and they are fantastic. Olive + Oak (located in downtown Webster on Lockwood near the intersection with Gray) makes fancy food, and they make fantastic chicken wings.

During the darkest days of pandemic, seeking joy when restaurant dining was not available, my wife and I would regularly would pick up an order which felt decedent, but fed both of us without breaking the bank:

  • Chicken Wings
  • Crab Dip
  • Burger

All 3 of these items are fantastic, but this is a chicken wing review blog. These aren’t standard Buffalo Wings:

They’ve got a lot of the elements you like about wings: they’ve got a little heat, they’re crispy and delicious, they’re served with a nice cup of house made ranch.

While these wings do have a tiny bit of heat, I don’t think anyone would describe them as spicy. What they lack in heat, they more than compensate for in flavor. The maple-red curry glaze is, as the name suggests, slightly sweet and pretty curry-y. The coconut & ginger also make an appearance. But more than anything, they are an incredible balance between all of these flavors. I’ve had these wings 10+ times over several years and every time they are well cooked, and delicious.

I work in Webster and over the last few months, the office has celebrated “Webster Wing Wednesday” where we try wings from a different place within walking distance of our office. Olive + Oak isn’t open for lunch, but we got an order one evening, and they blew the other participants out of the water. They aren’t traditional wings, but they are fantastic by any measure.

This restaurant has a lot of great options, but don’t sleep on the wings. They are great!
