Kitchen Sink Wings

The Kitchen Sink is located downtown on 6th avenue between Washington Avenue and the convention center/dome where an NFL team used to play. But it used to be located near Forest Park. I had been to and eaten wings at their previous location, but apparently I have not reviewed them here!

The menu is about the right size. It features one (oversized) page, front and back and has sections like breakfast, appetizers, sandwiches, entrees and… wings get their own section. But the wing selection isn’t overwhelming! There are some good options:

Wing selections cost $9. There are boneless wings, house wings, Jerk wings (those are actually $10) and Thai wings. The house wings come with the following sauce options: house sauce, honey BBQ, ranch hot and buffalo hot. The Jerk and Thai wings both have interesting descriptions and I would like to try them in the future, but for my first visit, I ordered Buffalo Hot.

My visit was on a Thursday night at about 7:00pm with 2 friends. (OK, I was with my wife and my sister. So what if I don’t have two friends?) The place is someone cold and cavernous, with high ceilings and concrete floors. There were not a lot of other people there, but there were some good jams playing and the employees seemed to be in a pretty good mood. The beer selection is better than adequate and our server was extraordinarily friendly, though only mildly attentive.

My wings were served in a black bowl with a couple pieces of celery. The wings appeared lightly/slightly breaded but not in an overwhelming way. The wings had a reasonable amount of heat and were very tasty. The chicken tasted very good and fresh. The wings retained crispiness from the first to the last. They were not offensively large in size.

The Kitchen Sink has won a fair amount of local wing competitions and I can see why. While I didn’t find anything particularly exceptional about these wings, they were way above average. Their additional preparations (specifically the jerk and Thai) sound really good and I hope to be back to try them.

So, the wings are good here. But my wife got some chicken strips, and my sister got a burger and both of those were really good as well. They have good food here, from everything I can tell.
