Wings Reviewed: 7 Spice Buffalo Chicken Wings
Genre: Place That Serves Wings
Overview: If I had to give up either eating chicken wings or watching the St. Louis Cardinals, I’d definitely give up eating chicken wings. Watching baseball is probably my favorite pastime. Fortunately, no one is asking me to give up either of these things right now, and double-fortunately, I can enjoy both at the same time. To add triple and quadruple levels of fortuity to this occasion, it was playoff baseball, and I left work early for it.
This is my first time ever at The Shack, a place I had never heard of before my friend suggested going there to watch the game. The place was pretty dead when we got there for the 4:00 game, but everyone who was there was decked out in Cardinals gear and excited about the game. My waitress was a patronizingly flirtatious college-aged girl. If this place were full, I’d imagine it would be full of people I don’t like. Empty, it was a great place to watch the game.
Everyone at the table got something different and everyone enjoyed their food. The motto of The Shack Pubgrub is “Polishing up the Greasy Spoon” and it definitely seems like they take their bar food seriously. The beer selection is as bland as can be for a place offering about 20 beers on tap. Lots of AB/Coors/Miller products (Natty Light on tap, anyone?), and a couple craft brews, some local and some national.
Pricing seems a little expensive for what seems like a college bar, but the food is also better. My pound of wings was $8. I’d go here again in off hours, but I’d absolutely avoid it on a weekend night. They offer wings in a couple other sauce options. They also offer loaded fries with a bunch of stuff on them including their wing sauce, and these were really good.

BAD • FAIR • GOOD • GREAT • BEST
Sometimes places that you don’t want to like serve wings that are really good. It’s my duty as wing reviewer to tell you that these were great.
They were very well sauced, very well fried and generally delicious. The wings were a good size. The presentation was nice as well. The sauce itself was a little bit thicker than a standard buffalo sauce, and I tasted a hint of mustard, though this was disputed by others at the table. Either way, the sauce sticks well to the wings and your fingers, and is just a very good consistency.
These wings were of about average heat for the hot buffalo style, but definitely had their own unique flavor as well. I couldn’t identify any of the advertised 7 spices, but I’m sure they were there.
If you’re at The Shack, you wouldn’t regret making these wings a part of your order. With so many other delicious looking and sounding options on the menu though, I wouldn’t blame you if you went with something else. If you’re looking to try the sauce, go with the loaded fries that are only $4 during happy hour.
