PJ’s Tavern in Kirkwood

Wings Reviewed: Chicken Wings

Genre: Place That Serves Wings

Overview: PJ’s Tavern in Kirkwood is a pretty standard bar in downtown Kirkwood. I don’t want to say that it’s nondescript, but I’ve been there maybe 3 times in my life prior to this visit and I couldn’t tell you what I’ve ordered any of the times before.

The list of beers on tap is pretty limited, but they’ve got a decent list of bottles. My order of a pound of wings costed $8.79 which is fine by Kirkwood standards. Parking is terrible, just like it is everywhere in the area.

Shoot. I defined my review scale before I started and defined Fine as “Get something else… unless you really want wings, and these are the only option.” and these fall firmly in that category. For them to be good, I’d have to be able to say that I could order them again, and I just wouldn’t.

So, what was wrong with these wings? Absolutely nothing, I guess. The sauce was pretty good, though I think there could have been some more of it. The wings were a little dry, inside and out. The spice was average. They weren’t quite crispy enough. Overall, it was just a boring wing experience.

It’s probably pretty unprofessional to apologize for a not great review, but I would like to say that I feel bad about this one. My service at PJ’s was great and I had an overall good experience here. But next time, I’d probably try pizza or a burger.
