It’s been nearly five years since my last St. Louis Wing Review post and a lot has changed in my life! I’ve become a father of two, I live in a different house… ok those are the main two things that have changed. But they’re pretty big things!
But two important things remain the same:
- I live in St. Louis.
- I love eating chicken wings.
So, I’m going to attempt to bring back the St. Louis Wing Review. But why now? I don’t know. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and I’ve got a couple things I want to write so why not. I also was inspired by a great instagram account dedicated to reviewing wings in St. Louis to get back into the game. So if you like chicken wings in St. Louis, follow Wingin Around Town. We don’t have the exact same taste in wings, but their passion is strong, and their posts are fun. Maybe I’ll set up an STL Wing Review Instagram. Who knows.
Will anything be different about the Wing Review this time around? Who knows. But here are some ideas about where things might go:
- Less chain reviews. For awhile I was one of the first 3 results on Google when you searched for “Buffalo Wild Wings Sauces Ranked” or something like that. I liked the traffic that came with this (sometimes a few hundred visits a day) and grew greedy for more. So I went out to try to review other chains… see my last series from 2017 about WingStreet. These series were boring to write & I’d imagine uninteresting to read. I’m not saying I won’t do chains, I just don’t want to focus on them.
- Discussion of other menu items I got with my wings. Sometimes they require a mention.
- Less heat. While I still crave uncomfortable levels of heat, by body is aging. I mean, I’m 34. So not super aging, but a little aging. A particularly bad decision can have days of gastrointestinal consequences that become increasingly hard to justify. Also when your kid asks you “why are you crying” at the table and you can’t talk… it’s not a great parenting moment.
- Appreciation of cooling dipping sauces. Along those lines, sometimes I need a little help with the hotter flavors I still choose to consume, despite the warnings above. In my “Wing Philosophy” section of the About Page I wrote in 2013, it says “I don’t take ranch, blue cheese or celery with my wings.” This is no longer true. I’m down with almost every blue cheese sauce, and ranches that are good. I haven’t fully gotten over my mayonnaise aversion, but I try not to think about it.
- More Takeout. Turns out we’re still in a pandemic. This means I’m eating a lot more wings at home lately, which isn’t ideal for fried wings. I’ll try not to hold texture issues.
- Maybe I’ll get rid of the ads? I don’t remember how I set them up, but I wish I didn’t have them. Right now I’m making about $4/month on this bad boy, which is less than I’m paying to host it.
My first two reviews will be a place I ate this week and a place that I loved that both opened & closed during COVID.
Thanks for reading!
